Intel Core i7-2600 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-2600, based on the Sandy Bridge S architecture, was introduced in early 2011 for the mainstream desktop market.

Manufactured using a 32nm process, it features 4 cores and 8 threads, 8 MB of L3 cache, and utilizes PCIe 2.0. Its integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 and a maximum memory bandwidth of 17 GB/s are intended for basic tasks. The processor has a TDP of 95W and is primarily relevant today as a cost-effective upgrade for very old systems on the used market.

The Intel Processor N100, with its modern Alder Lake N architecture, was launched in early 2023 and targets energy-efficient, compact systems.

It is manufactured using a more advanced 10nm process and integrates 4 cores, 4 threads, and 6 MB of L3 cache. With PCIe 3.0 and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s, it offers a more modern foundation. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) provides improved performance for media playback and light gaming.

The Intel Processor N100 has a very low TDP of approximately 6W. Regarding performance, single-core performances in older benchmarks are comparable, but the Intel Processor N100 significantly outperforms the Intel Core i7-2600 in modern single- and multi-core applications.

Both are unsuitable for demanding gaming, but the more modern graphics unit of the Intel Processor N100 offers advantages in very light games. The Intel Processor N100 excels with significantly better energy efficiency and is designed for current, compact systems, while the Intel Core i7-2600 represents an outdated option.
