V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

Blender 3.1 Benchmark

The two processors from this comparison were brought onto the market by Intel in the third quarter of 2020 and are intended for use in mobile devices (laptops / socket BGA 1526). They are manufactured using the 10 nanometer process and are based on Intel's Tiger Lake UP3 architecture. The TDP of the processors is 15 watts.

Both processors have 4 physical cores and support Hyper-Threading technology. The only difference between the two is the clock frequencies. The basic clock frequency of the cores is 2.80 gigahertz for the Intel Core i7-1165G7 and a slightly higher 3.00 gigahertz for the Intel Core i7-1185G7. The same picture emerges at the maximum turbo clock, this is 4.70 gigahertz for the Intel Core i7-1165G7 and 4.80 gigahertz for the Intel Core i7-1185G7.

As can be seen in the benchmarks, this slightly higher clock rate gives the Intel Core i7-1185G7 a speed advantage of a few percentage points.

Both processors have built in the same internal graphics unit with the Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96 (Tiger Lake G7). Like the processors, this graphics unit is manufactured using the 10 nanometer process and comes from the 12th generation of in-house graphics units. It has 96 execution units, 768 shader units and a maximum GPU memory of 16 gigabytes. In the Intel Core i7-1165G7 the iGPU clocks with up to 1.30 gigahertz and in the Intel Core i7-1185G7 with up to 1.35 gigahertz. This small difference in clock frequency makes the difference between the 1933 GigaFLOPS achieved by the iGPU in the Intel Core i7-1165G7 and the 2070 GigaFLOPS achieved by the iGPU in the Intel Core i7-1185G7.

The processors both have 2 memory channels with which they can operate up to 64 gigabytes of RAM of the type DDR4-3200 or LPDDR4X-4266.

As you can see, the only difference between the two processors is the clock frequencies of the processor cores and the internal graphics unit.
