Intel Core i5-7200U vs Intel Processor N150

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-7200U, introduced around 2016 as part of the Kaby Lake U architecture, was designed for slim ultrabooks and notebooks that required solid performance for everyday office tasks and light multitasking.

It was manufactured using a 14 nm process and featured 2 cores and 4 threads with 3 MB of Level 3 cache. Its integrated graphics unit was the Intel HD Graphics 620. In contrast, the Intel Processor N150, with the newer Twin Lake architecture, was developed for modern entry-level devices, educational, and IoT solutions.

This processor is manufactured using the more efficient 7 nm process and offers 6 cores and 6 threads with a Level 2 cache of 4 MB and 6 MB of Level 3 cache. The integrated graphics solution is the Intel UHD Graphics with 24 EUs (Alder Lake). In terms of computing performance, the Intel Processor N150 significantly surpasses the Intel Core i5-7200U.

It shows noticeably higher performance in both single-core and multi-core applications, due to its newer architecture, higher core count, and more advanced manufacturing process. For gaming, both processors are only suitable for very light or older titles. The Intel Processor N150 offers a slight advantage here thanks to its more modern Intel UHD Graphics and generally better CPU performance compared to the Intel HD Graphics 620 of the Intel Core i5-7200U.

The Intel Processor N150 is more energy-efficient than the 14 nm Intel Core i5-7200U due to its 7 nm manufacturing process. Both are designed for low Thermal Design Power, which, however, tends to enable longer battery life for the N150. As an older model, the Intel Core i5-7200U is only relevant in used devices.

The Intel Processor N150, as a new CPU in entry-level devices, offers a better price/performance ratio due to its superior performance and efficiency for current software. In summary, the Intel Core i5-7200U is suitable for basic tasks on very inexpensive used devices. For contemporary use, better responsiveness, and energy efficiency, the Intel Processor N150 is the superior choice for new, budget-oriented systems.
