Intel Core i5-6500T vs Intel Processor N150

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-6500T, introduced in Q3 2015, is based on the 14nm Skylake-S architecture and was designed for energy-efficient desktop systems.

It features 4 cores, 4 threads, 6 MB of Level 3 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 is suitable only for basic graphics tasks; it is insufficient for gaming. Its single-core performance is lower than that of the Intel Processor N150, but its multi-core performance is comparable.

The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is moderate for its generation. Today, it is primarily found on the used market, without offering the efficiency of more modern alternatives. The Intel Processor N150, typically released in 2023, utilizes the more modern 7nm Twin Lake architecture for entry-level systems with very low power consumption.

It also features 4 cores, 4 threads, 4 MB of Level 2 and 6 MB of Level 3 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. Its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is more powerful and better suited for light graphics applications and media playback than that of the Intel Core i5-6500T.

It significantly outperforms the Intel Core i5-6500T in single-core performance, with comparable multi-core performance. Thanks to its architecture, the TDP is significantly lower, making it ideal for fanless and compact systems and offering good value for money in new devices. In summary, the Intel Core i5-6500T is an established but outdated solution for general desktop tasks.

The Intel Processor N150 is the more modern, energy-efficient choice with better single-core performance and a more up-to-date graphics unit for basic tasks in new, economical systems. For new, energy-efficient systems with basic requirements, the Intel Processor N150 is the superior choice.
