Intel Core i5-6500 vs AMD FX-8320

Last updated:
The AMD FX-8320 was released in 2012 and was aimed at users seeking multitasking performance.

It is based on the Vishera architecture and offers eight cores and eight threads. Manufactured using the 32-nanometer process, the processor shows measurable performance in multi-core applications, but falls significantly behind the competition in single-core performance. The processor has an 8 MB Level 3 cache and achieves a memory bandwidth of 30 GB/s.

Since there is no integrated graphics unit, a dedicated graphics card is required. Power consumption is relatively high due to the manufacturing process and number of cores, which is reflected in a design power of 125 watts. The price-performance ratio for specific applications is considered solid. The Intel Core i5-6500 appeared in 2015 for efficient desktop systems and gaming computers.

It uses the Skylake S architecture and is manufactured using the 14-nanometer process. This processor offers four cores and four threads. The single-core performance is over 10 percent higher than that of the AMD processor, which offers advantages in applications and games. With the integrated Intel HD Graphics 530, it allows operation without an additional graphics card.

Support for PCIe 3.0 and a memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s ensure a fast connection. Thanks to the design power of 65 watts, the processor works energy-efficiently. In gaming scenarios, the Intel Core i5-6500 delivers more stable frame rates. Compared to the AMD FX-8320, it offers advantages for modern games and a balanced price-performance ratio.
