Intel Core i5-14500 vs Intel Core i3-14100

The Intel Core i5-14500 and Intel Core i3-14100 are Intel's 14th generation "Raptor Lake S Refresh" desktop processors, introduced in the first quarter of 2024.

Both are manufactured using the 10 nm fabrication process. The Intel Core i5-14500 is aimed at demanding users and content creators, offering 14 cores (6 performance cores, 8 efficient cores) and 20 threads with 20 MB L2 and 24 MB L3 cache. The Intel Core i3-14100 is a budget option for everyday tasks with 4 performance cores and 8 threads, equipped with 5 MB L2 and 12 MB L3 cache.

Both support PCIe 5.0. In single-core performance, they are comparable, with the Intel Core i5-14500 having a slight lead of less than 10 percent. For multi-core tasks, the Intel Core i5-14500 is significantly superior thanks to its higher core count and threads. For gaming, the Intel Core i5-14500 offers better performance due to its more robust configuration and larger cache.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 (i5) is also more powerful than the Intel UHD Graphics 730 (i3), but both are suitable for basic applications or very light gaming. The Intel Core i5-14500 consumes more power under load (max. 154W) than the Intel Core i3-14100 (max. 110W) and therefore requires more effective cooling.

The maximum memory bandwidth is 90 GB/s for the Intel Core i5-14500 and 77 GB/s for the Intel Core i3-14100. The Intel Core i3-14100 offers excellent value for money for everyday tasks, while the Intel Core i5-14500 justifies its higher price through its superior performance and versatility.

For demanding applications and gaming, the Intel Core i5-14500 is the choice; for cost-effective office PCs and general use, the Intel Core i3-14100.
