Intel Core i5-1235U vs Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-1235U is a mobile processor of the Alder Lake U-architecture, manufactured using the advanced 10 nm process.

Designed for energy-efficient laptops, it uses a hybrid design of performance and efficiency cores, enabling high single-core and superior multicore performance compared to older generations. With 7 MB Level 2 Cache, 12 MB Level 3 Cache, and 83 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth, it offers fast data processing.

The integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics 80 (Alder Lake) supports modern applications and allows for light gaming. Its low power consumption makes it ideal for mobile devices optimized for battery life and cooling, and it is part of current system configurations. The Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, based on the Kentsfield (Core) architecture, was an earlier desktop processor manufactured using the 65 nm process, which provided four physical cores for multitasking.

With 8 MB Level 2 Cache and 17 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth, it delivered solid performance at the time, but significantly lower single-core and multicore performance compared to the Intel Core i5-1235U. Without an integrated graphics unit, a dedicated graphics card is required. Its power consumption is considerably higher than that of modern mobile CPUs.

This discontinued model is now only found on the used market and does not offer adequate value for money for current requirements. For modern application areas, from office work to media consumption and light gaming, the Intel Core i5-1235U is clearly the better choice due to its efficiency and superior performance.

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, however, is only suitable for operating legacy systems or very basic tasks without performance demands.
