Intel Core i3-7100 vs Intel Processor N100

The Intel Core i3-7100, based on the Kaby Lake S architecture, was introduced in 2017 and was a desktop processor for standard PCs.

The Intel Processor N100, part of the Alder Lake N family, launched in 2023 and is a newer, energy-efficient chip, ideal for compact systems with low power consumption.

The Intel Core i3-7100 (14 nm) has 2 cores/4 threads and 3 MB L3 cache. The Intel Processor N100 (10 nm) offers 4 Gracemont cores/4 threads, 4 MB L2 and 6 MB L3 cache. Both utilize PCIe 3.0 and 38 GB/s memory bandwidth. The Intel Processor N100 delivers significantly higher single-core performance than the Intel Core i3-7100, thanks to its modern architecture.

In multi-core applications, the Intel Processor N100 also noticeably outperforms its predecessor. Neither is suitable for demanding gaming. The Intel Core i3-7100 integrates Intel HD Graphics 630. The Intel Processor N100 offers the more modern Intel UHD Graphics (Alder Lake) with 24 EUs, which is better for simple graphics tasks.

The Intel Core i3-7100 is a standard desktop processor with higher power consumption. The Intel Processor N100 is designed for extremely low power consumption, ideal for fanless and energy-efficient systems. The older Intel Core i3-7100 is primarily available used. The newer Intel Processor N100, often integrated into mini-PCs, offers excellent value for money.

The Intel Processor N100 is superior in performance and efficiency, optimal for new, energy-efficient office and media PCs. The Intel Core i3-7100 is now only useful as a spare part for legacy systems or for extremely simple tasks.
