Intel Core i3-5005U vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i3-5005U, based on the Broadwell U architecture, was designed for entry-level notebooks and energy-efficient thin clients.

It is an older processor, manufactured using the 14nm process, and features two cores and four threads. The maximum memory bandwidth is 26 GB/s, complemented by 3 MB of Level-3 cache and the integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500. Its architecture provides a solid foundation for basic office work and multimedia applications but falls behind newer generations in terms of performance.

The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, belongs to the newer Alder Lake N architecture and is intended for energy-efficient mini-PCs, embedded systems, and ultra-low-power devices.

It is manufactured using the more advanced 10nm process and has four cores without Hyper-Threading, resulting in four threads. With a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s and 6 MB of Level-3 cache, it significantly outperforms its comparison CPU. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is also more powerful.

In a direct performance comparison, the Intel Processor N100 shows significantly better single-core and multi-core performance. The more modern architecture and higher core count of the Intel Processor N100 lead to superior computing power in most applications. Even in gaming scenarios, the Intel Processor N100, with its Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), offers noticeably better performance for very simple and older titles compared to the Intel HD Graphics 5500 of the Intel Core i3-5005U.

Neither processor is suitable for demanding games. Regarding energy consumption, the Intel Processor N100, with its lower TDP value and more efficient 10nm manufacturing, is far superior to the Intel Core i3-5005U, making it a better choice for fanless or passively cooled systems.

The price-performance ratio of the Intel Processor N100 is also more advantageous due to its significantly higher performance and efficiency for modern requirements. The Intel Core i3-5005U is an end-of-life model that is only relevant for very specific legacy applications.
