Intel Core i3-2100 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i3-2100, based on Sandy Bridge S, was designed as an entry-level desktop processor. It is manufactured using the 32 nm process, has 2 cores and 4 threads, 1 MB L2 and 3 MB L3 cache.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 supports PCIe 2.0 with 21 GB/s memory bandwidth. The Intel Processor N100, with its more modern Alder Lake N architecture, targets compact, energy-efficient systems.

It is manufactured using the 10 nm process, features 4 cores and 4 threads, 4 MB L2 and 6 MB L3 cache. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) supports PCIe 3.0 with 38 GB/s memory bandwidth. In single- and multi-core performance, the Intel Processor N100 significantly surpasses the Intel Core i3-2100 thanks to its modern architecture.

Both are limited for gaming; however, the N100's graphics performance is significantly superior. The Intel Processor N100 is characterized by extremely low power consumption, while the Intel Core i3-2100 has significantly higher energy requirements. Pricewise, the i3-2100 is only relevant as a cheap used part.

As part of new mini-PCs, the N100 offers good value for money for its target group. In summary, the Intel Processor N100 offers clear advantages in performance, graphics, and energy efficiency. It is the recommendation for modern, compact systems. The Intel Core i3-2100 is outdated and only makes sense for the simplest tasks in existing systems.
