Intel Celeron N4000 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Celeron N4000, released in 2017, is designed for basic, energy-efficient entry-level devices such as Chromebooks.

The Intel Processor N100, introduced in late 2022, is a more modern processor for similar, budget-conscious systems, but aims for higher performance.

The Intel Celeron N4000 is based on the Gemini Lake architecture and is manufactured using a 14-nm process, with two cores and two threads. The Intel Processor N100 uses the more advanced Alder Lake N architecture and the more efficient 10-nm process, with four cores and four threads.

The Intel Celeron N4000 has 0 MB L2 and 4 MB L3 cache, while the Intel Processor N100 has 4 MB L2 and 6 MB L3 cache. Both have a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. The Intel Processor N100 offers significantly superior single-core and multi-core performance compared to the Intel Celeron N4000.

The Intel Processor N100's more modern architecture and higher core count lead to significantly more responsive and efficient application execution. Neither processor is suitable for demanding gaming. The Intel Celeron N4000 with Intel UHD Graphics 600 offers only minimal performance for the oldest or very simple games.

The Intel Processor N100 with Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) delivers noticeably better graphics performance, making casual games run more smoothly, but remains limited to this segment. Both processors are characterized by very low power consumption and a low Thermal Design Power (TDP). They are ideal for fanless systems and contribute to long battery life in mobile devices, emphasizing their efficiency.

The Intel Celeron N4000 is typically found in the cheapest devices. The Intel Processor N100 offers a significantly better price-performance ratio. For an often only slightly higher device price, the Intel Processor N100 provides a significantly increased overall performance.

The Intel Celeron N4000 is suitable for absolutely basic applications and maximum cost efficiency. For all other use cases requiring smoother operation and more performance, the Intel Processor N100 is the clearly superior choice, offering a significantly better user experience.
