Intel Celeron N2840 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Celeron N2840 (Bay Trail, 22 nm), introduced in 2014, was designed for simple notebooks. It offered two processing cores without Hyper-Threading, 1 MB Level 3 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 21 GB/s.

Its Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail GT1) and very limited single- and multi-core performance made it suitable only for basic tasks like web browsing. It was characterized by extremely low power consumption but is not suitable for gaming and is now primarily relevant in the used market. The Intel Processor N100 (Alder Lake N, 10 nm), introduced in 2023, is a more modern processor for energy-efficient mini-PCs.

It features four efficient processing cores without Hyper-Threading, 4 MB Level 2 and 6 MB Level 3 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. The Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) offers significantly higher performance. Both its single- and multi-core performance massively surpass the Intel Celeron N2840 (performance differences well over ten percent).

It offers excellent value for money, is very energy-efficient, and better suited for modern everyday use, but still not for demanding gaming.
