The Intel Celeron J1900, introduced in the fourth quarter of 2013, is a processor primarily designed for use in basic, energy-efficient systems such as compact desktop PCs, media centers (HTPCs), and Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices.

It is based on the older Bay Trail architecture and manufactured using a 22nm process. This processor features four cores and is equipped with 2 MB of Level-3 cache; a dedicated Level-2 cache is specified as 0 MB. The integrated graphics solution, Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail GT1), supports basic video output.

Furthermore, the maximum memory bandwidth is 21 GB/s, and the processor supports the PCIe 2.0 interface, which is sufficient for simple expansion cards. In direct comparison, the Intel Celeron J4125 was released in the fourth quarter of 2019 and targets similar market segments but offers a more modern foundation.

It is based on the Gemini Lake architecture and manufactured using a more advanced 14nm process, which brings higher transistor density and improved efficiency. This processor also has four cores but features a twice-as-large Level-3 cache of 4 MB, while the Level-2 cache is also 0 MB. The integrated graphics solution is the more powerful Intel UHD Graphics 600.

With a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s, it offers significantly faster data connectivity for the graphics chip and the system. PCIe 2.0 is also supported here. In terms of computing performance, the Intel Celeron J4125 shows significantly higher performance in both single-core and multi-core applications.

Benchmarks indicate more than twice the single-core performance and significantly improved multi-core performance for the Intel Celeron J4125. This performance increase is due to the architectural advancements of the Gemini Lake generation and optimized clock frequencies, enabling smoother system operation.

For gaming scenarios, neither processor is primarily designed, as they are optimized for general computing tasks. However, thanks to its newer Intel UHD Graphics 600 and significantly higher memory bandwidth, the Intel Celeron J4125 offers a noticeably improved capability for very light, older, or casual games compared to the Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail GT1) of the Intel Celeron J1900.

Neither processor is suitable for modern or graphically demanding games. Regarding power consumption, both CPUs are designed for low energy requirements. Due to the more advanced 14nm manufacturing process, the Intel Celeron J4125 is more efficient at comparable power consumption and delivers higher performance per watt than the Intel Celeron J1900 in the 22nm process.

This is advantageous for passively cooled systems or devices where low operating costs are important. The price-performance ratio of the Intel Celeron J4125 is generally better due to its significantly higher performance, even if it tends to be found in newer systems on the market. The Intel Celeron J1900, due to its age, is often only available in older or used systems and can represent an extremely cost-effective option for minimal requirements there.

New systems with the J1900 are rare. In summary, the Intel Celeron J1900 is suitable for extremely simple and cost-sensitive applications where computing power is secondary and very low power consumption is a priority. The Intel Celeron J4125, on the other hand, offers significantly improved overall performance and energy efficiency for a broader range of entry-level tasks.

For scenarios requiring better system responsiveness, smoother media playback, or light multitasking, the Intel Celeron J4125 is the clearly superior choice.
