Intel Atom C2550 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Atom C2550 (Avoton), introduced Q4 2013, was a 22 nm processor with 4 cores and 4 threads, aimed at energy-efficient microservers and embedded systems.

Its TDP is 14W. It offers a memory bandwidth of 26 GB/s and supports PCIe 2.0. With 2 MB L3 cache and no integrated graphics solution, it is completely unsuitable for gaming and delivers significantly lower single- and multi-core performance than the Intel Processor N100.

It is hardly available new anymore, and its price-performance ratio for modern tasks is low. The Intel Processor N100 (Alder Lake N), released Q1 2023, is manufactured using a 10 nm process and features 4 efficiency cores with 4 threads. It is designed for modern mini-PCs and IoT devices and is characterized by a very low TDP of 6W.

The Intel Processor N100 offers a higher memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s and PCIe 3.0. With 4 MB L2 and 6 MB L3 cache, as well as Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs, it enables basic multimedia and light gaming applications. Its single- and multi-core performance significantly surpasses the Intel Atom C2550, making it more responsive for everyday tasks.

The Intel Processor N100 offers a very good price-performance ratio in integrated systems. Summary and Recommendation: The Intel Atom C2550 is an outdated platform, recommended only for the continued operation of existing, non-performance-critical embedded systems. The Intel Processor N100 is the clear choice for new projects requiring a modern, energy-efficient, and sufficiently powerful basis for everyday tasks, thin clients, or media centers.
