Intel Atom C2538 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Atom C2538 (Avoton) was designed as an energy-efficient processor for servers, NAS systems, and embedded solutions.

Its focus was on low power consumption. The Intel Processor N100 (Alder Lake N) is a more modern, energy-efficient processor for mini PCs, thin clients, and cost-effective desktops, offering improved performance for everyday tasks.

The Intel Atom C2538 is manufactured using the 22 nm process, has 4 cores, 4 threads, 2 MB Level 2 cache, and uses PCIe 2.0. The Intel Processor N100 benefits from the 10 nm manufacturing process, also offers 4 cores, 4 threads, but more cache (4 MB Level 2, 6 MB Level 3) and supports PCIe 3.0.

The maximum memory bandwidth of the Intel Processor N100 (38 GB/s) is higher than that of the Intel Atom C2538 (26 GB/s). The Intel Processor N100 shows significantly higher single-core performance due to its modern architecture. Even in multi-core applications, the Intel Processor N100 is more powerful than the Intel Atom C2538.

Neither processor is suitable for modern gaming. The Intel Processor N100 features integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) for basic graphics performance and very light games, while the Intel Atom C2538 has no integrated graphics unit. Both processors are designed for very low power consumption; the Intel Atom C2538 is known for energy efficiency in continuous operation.

The Intel Processor N100 also offers very low consumption with better computing power thanks to its modern process. The older Intel Atom C2538 is primarily found in used or specialized systems. The current Intel Processor N100 offers excellent value for money for its target group.

The Intel Atom C2538 is suitable for niche applications with minimal performance requirements and highest energy efficiency. For all modern applications requiring a more responsive experience and better performance, the Intel Processor N100 is the clear better choice due to its significantly superior computing power, modern graphics, and efficiency.
