The Apple M1 Pro (10-CPU 16-GPU) and the Apple M2 Max (30-GPU) are Apple's SoCs for professional Mac systems.

The M1 Pro is the first generation of Pro/Max chips, while the M2 Max is an evolution of the M2 architecture, designed for maximum performance in demanding applications. For computationally intensive multi-core workloads and graphics-intensive applications, the M2 Max offers a noticeable performance advantage. For gaming, the Apple M2 Max (30-GPU) is clearly superior. Its higher number of GPU cores and massively increased memory bandwidth enable significantly smoother frame rates and better graphics settings than with the Apple M1 Pro (10-CPU 16-GPU).

Both chips are known for their energy efficiency. The Apple M2 Max (30-GPU) requires more power under full load, but like the Apple M1 Pro (10-CPU 16-GPU), it offers excellent performance per watt, enabling efficient thermal management. Systems with the Apple M2 Max (30-GPU) are usually more expensive.

The M2 Max justifies its price for maximum graphics and computing performance, while the M1 Pro offers good value for money for many professional use cases.
