Apple M1 vs Apple M1 Max (24-GPU)

Last updated:
The Apple M1 was introduced as the first proprietary chip for the mass market and is primarily aimed at users in everyday areas and the education sector.

Manufactured using the 5 nm process, this processor uses an architecture with eight cores and an L2 cache of 16 MB. The internal Apple M1 (8 Core) graphics unit handles the visual representation. The Apple M1 shows solid efficiency for simple tasks. While the speed of individual cores remains at a stable level, the system reaches its limits in parallel computations compared to more powerful variants.

The memory bandwidth of 68 GB/s is optimized for standard applications. Energy consumption remains low due to the thermal design. In terms of price, the Apple M1 is positioned as an entry-level solution with an attractive cost-to-performance ratio. This chip is the recommended choice for simple office work.

The Apple M1 Max (24-GPU) is designed for professional users who place high demands on video editing and graphic computing. It is also manufactured using the 5 nm process, but has a higher number of cores and a larger L2 cache of 28 MB. The integrated Apple M1 Max (24 Core) graphics unit offers significantly higher graphical performance, which is particularly noticeable in gaming scenarios due to the higher number of graphics cores.

Since the memory bandwidth is 410 GB/s, the processor shows good AI performance. In multi-core scenarios, the performance of the Apple M1 Max (24-GPU) significantly exceeds that of the base model, while the speed for single-core tasks often remains at a similar level. Despite the higher power consumption, the system remains efficient, but requires cooling.

The price reflects the professional orientation. This chip is recommended for creative workflows.
