Apple A14 Bionic vs Apple M5

Last updated:
The Apple A14 Bionic is a System-on-a-Chip (SoC) for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. It is manufactured using an energy-efficient 5 nm fabrication process and utilizes a multi-core architecture (Firestorm/Icestorm) with an integrated Apple A14 graphics solution.

In performance tests, it offers solid single-core and multi-core performance. With 12 MB Level 2 and 16 MB Level 3 Cache, as well as 34 GB/s memory bandwidth, it enables efficient mobile gaming with low power consumption and moderate heat generation. The Apple M5 is a processor for desktop systems and demanding applications.

It is manufactured using a more advanced 3 nm fabrication process and features a powerful multi-core design (M5) with an integrated Apple M5 (10 Core) graphics solution. It significantly outperforms the A14 Bionic in single-core and multi-core performance tests. With 28 MB Level 2 Cache, 154 GB/s memory bandwidth, and PCIe Version 4.0, it offers superior performance for gaming and graphics-intensive applications.

This higher performance requirement comes with a correspondingly higher power consumption. Direct market prices are not available as both processors are sold as integrated components in Apple end devices. A price-performance evaluation is conducted in the context of the overall system. The Apple A14 Bionic is ideal for energy-efficient mobile devices and everyday tasks.

For significantly higher computing and graphics performance, such as in demanding desktop applications or intensive gaming, the Apple M5 is the better choice. The recommendation depends on the area of application.
