AMD Ryzen Z2 vs AMD E2-3800

Last updated:
The AMD E2-3800 is an older generation Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) introduced in 2013 for entry-level and inexpensive desktop systems.

It is manufactured using the 28 nm fabrication process and is based on the Llano (K10) architecture, with 4 cores and 4 threads. Its single-core and multi-core performance is very limited for modern applications, making it suitable only for very basic tasks such as word processing or web browsing. The integrated AMD Radeon HD 8280 graphics unit with a memory bandwidth of 13 GB/s is only sufficient for extremely undemanding or old games at low resolution.

The typical Thermal Design Power (TDP) is 15 Watts. It is no longer available on the new market; its price-performance ratio is irrelevant today. The AMD Ryzen Z2 is a significantly more modern processor that launched in 2023, aimed at efficient desktop systems and mobile gaming devices.

Manufactured using the advanced 4 nm process and based on the Hawk Point (Zen 4) architecture, it offers 8 cores and 16 threads. Its single-core performance, and especially its multi-core performance, are many times higher than that of the AMD E2-3800, making it predestined for multitasking and computationally intensive applications.

The powerful integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics unit combined with a memory bandwidth of 77 GB/s and PCIe 4.0 enables modern gaming at moderate settings. Despite its high performance, it is very energy-efficient thanks to the fine manufacturing process, with a variable TDP of 15-30 Watts. It offers an excellent price-performance ratio for a modern APU.

For any modern application, from internet use to gaming and productivity software, the AMD Ryzen Z2 is the clear recommendation. The AMD E2-3800 is only conceivable for running very old software or as a replacement part for existing, extremely economical systems.
