AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U, introduced in late 2017, is a mobile AMD processor (Raven Ridge, Zen, 14 nm) for business notebooks.

It features 4 cores/8 threads and integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 (Raven Ridge) graphics with 4 MB Level 3 Cache and 38 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth. It was designed for balanced performance and efficiency. The Intel Processor N100, introduced in early 2023, is an Intel processor (Alder Lake N, 10 nm) for energy-efficient systems such as mini-PCs and entry-level laptops.

It has 4 cores/4 threads. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) with 4 MB Level 2 Cache and 6 MB Level 3 Cache also offers 38 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth. In computing performance, the Intel Processor N100 surpasses the AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U in single-core tasks by over 10 percent.

Multi-core performance is similar, with a slight advantage for the Intel Processor N100. For gaming, both chips are only very limitedly suitable; the AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 tends to offer slightly higher graphics performance for older or less demanding titles. The Intel Processor N100 stands out for maximum energy efficiency.

Its very low TDP allows it to be used in passively cooled systems, ideal for silence and low power consumption. The AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U has a slightly higher TDP range. Systems with the Intel Processor N100 are currently mostly more affordable and offer a more modern, efficient platform.

In summary, the Intel Processor N100 offers superior single-core performance and excellent energy efficiency for everyday tasks. The AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U was a solid choice in its time but is an outdated platform. For new purchases in the segment of energy-efficient entry-level systems, the Intel Processor N100 is the preferred choice.
