The Intel Core i7-8700, codenamed Coffee Lake S, was manufactured by Intel and is an 8th generation CPU that targeted the desktop market from late 2017.

It is manufactured using the 14 nm process and features 6 cores and 12 threads. With an Intel UHD Graphics 630 integrated graphics unit and PCIe 3.0 support, it offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 43 GB/s and 12 MB of Level 3 cache. In benchmarks, the Intel Core i7-8700 shows solid multi-core performance for its generation and good single-core performance for everyday tasks.

Its integrated graphics unit allows operation without a dedicated graphics card, but it is not designed for demanding games. The AMD Ryzen 5 5500, based on the Cezanne (Zen 3) architecture, was manufactured by AMD and is a newer processor typically positioned in the entry-to-mid-range segment.

It is produced using the more advanced 7 nm process and also offers 6 cores and 12 threads. This processor supports PCIe 3.0 and features 3 MB of Level 2 cache as well as 16 MB of Level 3 cache and a maximum memory bandwidth of 51 GB/s. In single-core and multi-core performance, the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 significantly outperforms the Intel Core i7-8700, making it a better choice for demanding applications and games.

The more efficient 7 nm manufacturing also indicates better energy efficiency.
