The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, introduced in late 2020, was designed for high-end Android smartphones and provided a platform for demanding applications and mobile games.

It is manufactured using the 5 nm process and utilizes the Kryo 680 architecture, including the Qualcomm Adreno 660 graphics unit. With a maximum memory bandwidth of 51 GB/s and 1 MB L2 cache as well as 8 MB L3 cache, it delivered strong performance at the time. In Geekbench 6, it achieved solid results in both single-core and multi-core areas, though these are surpassed by the G5.

Under load, however, the 5 nm chip could exhibit noticeable heat development. As an older processor, it is now available in devices with an attractive price-performance ratio. The Google Tensor G5 is a future, proprietary ARM processor intended for upcoming high-end Google Pixel smartphones, with a strong focus on AI and machine learning.

Manufactured using the more advanced 3 nm process, it is based on the G5 Laguna architecture and integrates an IMG DXT-48-1536 graphics unit. It also offers a memory bandwidth of 51 GB/s. In Geekbench 6, the Google Tensor G5 significantly outperforms the Snapdragon 888 in both areas, making it the better choice for demanding applications.

The smaller manufacturing process also promises improved energy efficiency and lower heat development, leading to superior overall performance. A price evaluation is currently not possible as the chip is not yet on the market.
