Intel Processor N100 vs Intel Core i5-6500

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-6500, introduced in 2015 with the Skylake-S architecture, targeted the mainstream desktop market.

It is manufactured using a 14nm process and features 4 cores and 4 threads. Its single-core performance is comparable to the Intel Processor N100.

In multi-core tasks, it shows over 10 percent higher performance in some tests. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 provides basic display output. It supports PCIe 3.0, offers 34 GB/s memory bandwidth, and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. The Intel Processor N100, based on the newer Alder Lake-N architecture, is designed for energy-efficient entry-level systems.

It is manufactured using a 10nm process and features 4 efficiency cores with 4 threads. Its single-core performance is on par with or slightly better than the Intel Core i5-6500. In multi-core tests, its performance is in some cases over 10 percent lower than that of the Intel Core i5-6500, but with significantly lower power consumption.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) offers improved media performance. It supports PCIe 3.0, 38 GB/s memory bandwidth, 4 MB of Level 2, and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. Neither processor is suitable for gaming. The Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) of the Intel Processor N100 offers a slight advantage for very simple or older game titles compared to the Intel HD Graphics 530 of the Intel Core i5-6500, thanks to its newer architecture.

The Intel Processor N100 is significantly more energy-efficient than the Intel Core i5-6500 due to its 10nm manufacturing process and efficient Alder Lake-N architecture. This makes it a better choice for low-power systems. Today, the Intel Core i5-6500 is primarily relevant as a component in used PCs.

The Intel Processor N100 is the basis for new, energy-efficient, and compact systems, offering solid performance for everyday tasks at its price point. In summary, the Intel Core i5-6500 offers slightly higher computing performance in some multi-core scenarios and is an option for reusing older hardware.

The Intel Processor N100 excels with its modern, highly efficient architecture and is ideal for new, compact, and low-power systems for office applications, web browsing, and media playback.
