The Intel Core i3-7100U uses the 14 nm Kaby Lake U architecture with 2 cores, 4 threads, 3 MB L3 cache, and 30 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth. The Intel Processor N100 is based on the 10 nm Alder Lake N architecture, offering 4 efficiency cores, 4 threads, 4 MB L2 and 6 MB L3 cache, as well as 38 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth.

The Intel Processor N100 outperforms the Intel Core i3-7100U in single-core and multi-core tests by over 10 percent each, thanks to its more modern architecture. Both processors are unsuitable for demanding gaming. However, the Intel UHD Graphics (Alder Lake) with 24 EUs of the Intel Processor N100 offers improved graphics performance compared to the Intel HD Graphics 620 of the Intel Core i3-7100U for simple casual games.

The Intel Core i3-7100U has a TDP of 15 watts. The Intel Processor N100, with only 6 watts TDP, is significantly more energy-efficient, ideal for fanless systems and long battery life. The older Intel Core i3-7100U can be found in used devices. The Intel Processor N100 offers higher performance with lower consumption and represents good value for money in current, cost-effective systems.

The Intel Core i3-7100U serves for existing devices with basic requirements. The Intel Processor N100 is the superior choice for new purchases, thanks to better computing and graphics performance as well as high energy efficiency for everyday and office tasks.
