Intel Pentium N3700 vs Intel Celeron J4125

Last updated:
The Intel Pentium N3700 is a processor based on the Braswell architecture, designed for energy-efficient, basic desktop and mini-PC systems, as well as for thin clients.

It targets users who want to perform simple tasks such as web browsing, word processing, and media playback. This processor is manufactured using a 14nm fabrication process and features four cores and four threads, enabling parallel processing of basic tasks. It integrates Intel HD Graphics 405 (16EU) with a maximum memory bandwidth of 26 GB/s and offers 2 MB of Level 3 Cache.

The Intel Celeron J4125 is based on the Gemini Lake architecture and was developed for compact desktop computers, home servers (NAS), and media centers.

It is aimed at users who need improved performance for everyday tasks and efficient media playback in a power-saving format. Also manufactured using a 14nm fabrication process, the Intel Celeron J4125 also offers four cores and four threads. This configuration supports running multiple applications simultaneously.

It features Intel UHD Graphics 600 and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s, as well as 4 MB of Level 3 Cache. The Intel Celeron J4125 demonstrates significantly higher single-core performance compared to the Intel Pentium N3700, which means noticeably better responsiveness in applications that primarily utilize a single core.

In multi-core performance too, the Intel Celeron J4125 shows substantially stronger performance, resulting in advantages in multitasking scenarios. Neither processor is designed for demanding games. However, the Intel UHD Graphics 600 of the Intel Celeron J4125 offers improved graphics performance and benefits from higher memory bandwidth, giving it a small advantage in very simple or older games.

For modern titles, the performance of both is insufficient. Both CPUs are designed for energy-efficient operation and are characterized by low power consumption, making them ideal for continuous operation in devices such as mini-PCs or NAS. Due to its noticeably superior performance in both single-core and multi-core applications, the Intel Celeron J4125 offers a better performance-per-euro ratio, provided the price difference is moderate.

In summary, the Intel Pentium N3700 is suitable for very basic computing tasks and as an extremely cost-effective solution for systems with minimal requirements. The Intel Celeron J4125 is the better choice for a smoother user experience, improved media playback, and slightly more demanding everyday applications where higher general responsiveness is desired.
