Intel Pentium 4405U vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Pentium 4405U, based on the Skylake U-architecture, was designed for energy-efficient, simple notebooks and PCs and is aimed at users for everyday tasks.

Manufactured in 14 nm, this processor has 2 cores and 4 threads. It features 2 MB of Level 3 cache. The Intel Processor N100, a member of the Alder Lake N-family, is a more modern chip developed for ultra-compact systems and low-power applications.

It is ideal for devices that need to handle basic computing tasks. This processor is manufactured in 10 nm and offers 4 cores and 4 threads. It is equipped with 4 MB of Level 2 cache and 6 MB of Level 3 cache. In terms of computing performance, the Intel Processor N100 shows a significantly higher capability than the Intel Pentium 4405U in both single-core and multi-core performance.

The more modern architecture of the Intel Processor N100 enables more efficient command processing. Both processors are not primarily designed for gaming scenarios. The Intel Pentium 4405U uses Intel HD Graphics 510, while the Intel Processor N100 is equipped with Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake).

The latter offers slightly better graphical performance thanks to its newer architecture and more execution units, but remains limited to very simple and older games. The maximum memory bandwidth is 34 GB/s for the Intel Pentium 4405U and 38 GB/s for the Intel Processor N100, which is insufficient for demanding graphics tasks.

The Intel Processor N100 is characterized by significantly lower power consumption. With a TDP of typically 6 watts, it is considerably more energy-efficient than the Intel Pentium 4405U, whose TDP is usually 15 watts. This makes the Intel Processor N100 the better choice for fanless or passively cooled systems.

In terms of price-performance ratio, the Intel Processor N100 offers significantly higher computing performance and energy efficiency for its purchase price. The Intel Pentium 4405U is an older chip that is mostly only found in used or very inexpensive existing systems. In summary, the Intel Processor N100 offers clearly superior performance in all areas, coupled with significantly higher energy efficiency.

The Intel Pentium 4405U is an outdated option. For modern applications, better overall performance, and lower power consumption, the Intel Processor N100 is the clear recommended choice. It is excellent for mini-PCs, thin clients, and light laptops for office work, web browsing, and media playback.

The Intel Pentium 4405U can only be considered if an existing system with this processor is to be used for very basic tasks and no new investment is planned.
