Historically, it was expensive but offered specialized performance for workstations and complex simulations. The Intel Core i7-8700K, based on the Coffee Lake S architecture, also launched at the end of 2017.

This processor, manufactured using a 14nm process, with 6 cores and 12 threads, 12 MB of Level 3 Cache, and 43 GB/s memory bandwidth, targeted gamers and mainstream enthusiasts. It integrates the Intel UHD Graphics 630. The Intel Core i7-8700K shines with superior single-core performance and is often the better choice for gaming.

Its multi-core performance is good for its class but significantly lower than that of the Intel Core i9-7960X. Power consumption and TDP are more moderate, allowing for simpler cooling solutions. It offered better value for money for the average user.
