Intel Core i5-6200U vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-6200U, a 6th generation mobile processor (Skylake U-architecture), was introduced around 2015/2016 for mainstream laptops.

Manufactured using the 14 nm process, it featured 2 cores, 4 threads, and 3 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 supported basic multimedia tasks. The maximum memory bandwidth was 34 GB/s. In benchmarks, it showed solid single-core performance for its generation but was surpassed in multi-core performance by newer architectures.

With a typical TDP of 15 watts, it offered adequate energy efficiency for everyday tasks and is now primarily found in used devices. The Intel Processor N100, based on the modern Alder Lake N-architecture, was launched in 2023 and targets energy-efficient entry-level devices such as mini-PCs.

It is manufactured using the more advanced 10 nm process and features 4 E-cores, 4 threads, 4 MB of Level 2, and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) and a memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s offer improved performance for media playback and light applications. It significantly outperforms the Intel Core i5-6200U in both single-core and multi-core performance.

With a very low TDP of 6 watts, it is extremely energy-efficient, ideal for fanless systems, and offers good value for money in new devices. In summary, the Intel Processor N100 is the superior choice for current, energy-efficient systems for basic tasks, thanks to its significantly better performance and efficiency.

The Intel Core i5-6200U is only an option for very inexpensive used devices with minimal requirements.
