The Intel Core i5-4590 is based on the Haswell S architecture and was designed for use in mid-range desktops.

Manufactured using the 22-nanometer process, this processor features four physical cores and four threads. In terms of computing power, the Intel Core i5-4590 shows solid results in everyday tasks, but falls behind in direct comparison for single-core and multi-core performance. The unit is only conditionally suitable for gaming, with the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 only handling basic functions.

The Thermal Design Power is 84 watts, which requires an appropriate cooling solution. The processor is often available cheaply on the used market, but offers lower efficiency. The maximum memory bandwidth is 26 GB/s and the connection is via PCIe 3.0. The Intel Core i3-9100 uses the Coffee Lake S Refresh architecture and is aimed at budget-conscious users in need of advanced technology.

Through the 14-nanometer manufacturing process, it achieves higher efficiency. It also offers four cores and four threads, but clearly outperforms the comparison processor in single-core performance as well as in multi-core scenarios by more than ten percent. In gaming situations, the higher clock frequency and the Intel UHD Graphics 630 ensure a more stable frame rate.

With a Thermal Design Power of 65 watts, the Intel Core i3-9100 operates more thermally efficiently. The memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s effectively supports data throughput together with PCIe 3.0. Due to its better performance per watt, it represents the more sensible choice for general applications.
