Intel Core i5-2520M vs Intel Processor N150

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-2520M, a processor based on the Sandy Bridge H architecture, was introduced in early 2011 for mainstream mobile use.

It was designed for laptops of its time and offered balanced performance. Manufactured in 32 nm, it featured 2 cores, 4 threads, and 3 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its maximum memory bandwidth was 21 GB/s, complemented by the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 for basic graphics performance. In terms of performance, it achieved a single-core score of 549 and a multi-core score of 1162 in Geekbench 6.

Its typical thermal design power (TDP) was 35W. The Intel Processor N150, based on the newer Twin Lake architecture, was introduced in early 2023 and is intended for energy-efficient, cost-effective mobile devices such as entry-level laptops or thin clients.

It is manufactured using the modern 7 nm process and offers 2 cores, 2 threads, 4 MB of Level 2 Cache, and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. With a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s and Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), it significantly surpasses its predecessor. In Geekbench 6, the Intel Processor N150 achieves a single-core score of 1234 and a multi-core score of 2979, which means over 100 percent higher performance in both areas.

The TDP is a very efficient 6.5W. Neither processor is suitable for demanding titles in gaming. However, the newer integrated graphics unit and the higher memory bandwidth of the Intel Processor N150 offer noticeably better performance in very simple or older game titles. While the Intel Core i5-2520M is only relevant in legacy systems as an outdated chip, the Intel Processor N150, as a current, energy-efficient processor, offers good value for money for basic computing tasks in new devices that require efficiency and modern basic performance.
