Intel Core i3-14100 vs Intel Core i7-8700K

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-8700K is based on the Coffee Lake S architecture and was manufactured by Intel using the 14 nm process.

As a former flagship model, it was aimed at demanding users looking for high clock rates. With six cores and twelve threads as well as a Level 3 cache of 12 MB, it offers a solid basis for parallel tasks, but has no Level 2 cache. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles simple visual tasks. Benchmarks show that single-core performance falls significantly behind newer generations.

Support for PCIe 3.0 and a memory bandwidth of 43 GB/s limit data throughput by modern standards. The higher thermal design power also requires a stronger cooling solution. The Intel Core i7-8700K remains an option for existing systems, but is losing ground to modern entry-level processors.

The Intel Core i3-14100 comes from the Raptor Lake S Refresh series and is manufactured by Intel using the more efficient 10 nm process.

Although it only has four cores and eight threads, it outperforms older models through increased architectural efficiency. With 5 MB of Level 2 cache and 12 MB of Level 3 cache, it achieves higher results in benchmarks for single-core and multi-core performance. Especially in games, the modern structure ensures a more stable frame rate.

Thanks to PCIe 5.0 support and a memory bandwidth of 77 GB/s, data transfer is significantly faster. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 730 also offers improved performance. The processor has a lower thermal design power, which minimizes cooling requirements. The Intel Core i3-14100 offers a favorable price-performance ratio for modern entry-level office and gaming computers.
