Intel Core i3-10100 vs Intel Pentium G860

The Intel Core i3-10100 was released as an entry-level solution for desktop systems and is based on the Comet Lake S architecture.

This processor is manufactured using a 14-nanometer process and offers four cores and eight threads. In contrast, the Intel Pentium G860 is a model of the Sandy Bridge S generation, manufactured using a 32-nanometer process and featuring only two cores and two threads.

In benchmarks, the Intel Core i3-10100 shows a clear lead in both single-core performance and multi-core performance. The architecture and the higher core count allow for more efficient task processing, while the Intel Pentium G860 falls significantly behind in parallel applications.

The Intel Core i3-10100 also uses PCIe 3.0 and offers a memory bandwidth of 43 GB/s. In gaming scenarios, the Intel Core i3-10100 delivers more stable performance, which is due to the support for Hyper-Threading and the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630. The Intel Pentium G860 with its Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge GT1) and PCIe 2.0 is hardly sufficient for complex applications.

In energy efficiency, the Intel Core i3-10100 benefits from its finer manufacturing, although both have a similar thermal design power. The price-performance ratio of the Intel Core i3-10100 is good for versatile tasks, while the Intel Pentium G860 is only available as a very cost-effective option for simple systems.

Due to the technological advantages, the Intel Core i3-10100 is the more sensible choice for almost all application areas compared to the older Intel Pentium G860.
