Intel Celeron J1900 vs Intel Celeron J3160

Last updated:
The Intel Celeron J1900 and Intel Celeron J3160 are processors for energy-efficient entry-level systems, HTPCs, or NAS.

The Intel Celeron J1900 is based on the older Bay Trail architecture and is manufactured using a 22 nm process, while the Intel Celeron J3160 uses the Braswell architecture and is produced in a more modern 14 nm process. Both feature four cores and four threads and support PCIe Version 2.0.

In terms of computing performance, both CPUs show very similar characteristics. There are no significant differences of over ten percent in both single-core and multi-core benchmarks, meaning they offer comparable performance for basic office tasks and media playback. Neither processor is designed for gaming.

The Intel Celeron J1900 integrates an Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail GT1), while the Intel Celeron J3160 uses the slightly improved Intel HD Graphics 400. The higher maximum memory bandwidth of 26 GB/s on the Intel Celeron J3160 compared to 21 GB/s on the Intel Celeron J1900 could give the J3160 a marginal advantage in playing HD videos and very simple games.

The smaller manufacturing process of the Intel Celeron J3160 tends to result in better energy efficiency and potentially lower power consumption, making it more advantageous for fanless systems or applications focused on low power consumption. Without current market prices, an accurate price-performance evaluation is difficult.

At similar costs, the Intel Celeron J3160 offers a more well-rounded overall package due to its efficiency and slightly better graphics performance. The Intel Celeron J1900 is a cost-effective option for basic applications. The Intel Celeron J3160 is recommended due to similar computing performance but improved energy efficiency and graphics performance for HTPCs or systems where low power consumption is a priority.
