Apple M2 Max (38-GPU) vs Apple M3 Max (14-CPU 30-GPU)

Last updated:
The Apple M2 Max (38-GPU) is a powerful System-on-a-Chip (SoC) of the M2 architecture, designed for professional users in mobile and desktop systems.

It is manufactured using the proven 5 nm manufacturing process and integrates a graphics unit with 38 cores. With a maximum memory bandwidth of 410 GB/s, it offers good performance for AI applications. Although surpassed by its successor in single-core and multi-core CPU tasks as well as graphics performance in modern games, the Apple M2 Max (38-GPU) continues to deliver very high performance for demanding creative tasks such as video editing and 3D rendering.

It often represents an attractive price-performance ratio in existing or refurbished systems. The Apple M3 Max (14-CPU 30-GPU) is the more advanced SoC solution, based on the newer M3 architecture and manufactured using the more efficient 3 nm process.

It features 14 CPU cores and a graphics unit with 30 cores. In single-core and multi-core CPU scenarios, the Apple M3 Max (14-CPU 30-GPU) achieves significantly higher performance than its predecessor and offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 307 GB/s, which also enables good AI performance.

Especially in gaming and graphics-intensive applications, it benefits from its newer GPU architecture with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading, which enables superior performance despite fewer GPU cores. Its improved energy efficiency makes it the first choice for maximum performance and future-proofing.
