The Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) and Apple M1 Max (24-GPU) are high-performance System-on-Chips (SoCs) introduced in October 2021 for professional users.

They offer high computing and graphics performance in Apple devices such as MacBooks Pro and Mac Studio. Both are based on the 5-nm M1 architecture with 10 CPU cores (8 performance, 2 efficiency). The Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) has 32 GPU cores, while the Apple M1 Max (24-GPU) has 24 GPU cores.

A memory bandwidth of 410 GB/s enables good AI performance, complemented by 28 MB of L2 cache. The CPU performance of both M1 Max variants is identical. In benchmarks, they show no significant differences due to the same CPU core configuration and offer comparably high performance. In gaming, the Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) offers better graphics performance with its 32 GPU cores than the 24-GPU variant.

This potentially enables higher frame rates and smoother display. Both SoCs are energy-efficient. The Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) has slightly higher power consumption under full GPU load. The thermal waste heat for both remains within the scope of efficient cooling solutions. The Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) can be found in higher-priced configurations and offers maximum graphics performance.

The Apple M1 Max (24-GPU) is a more cost-effective alternative with very high overall performance and good value for money. The Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) is optimal for the most demanding graphics tasks (video editing, 3D rendering). The Apple M1 Max (24-GPU) delivers excellent CPU and very strong graphics performance for high-end applications without absolute peak GPU requirements.
