The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X is aimed at professional users who require high computing power for workstations. It has 32 cores and 64 threads, as well as an L2 cache of 16 MB and an L3 cache of 128 MB. In synthetic tests, this processor shows solid multi-core performance. For gaming, both processors are less optimized due to their architecture, as the high core count offers little advantage there.

With a TDP of 280 watts, power consumption is high, requiring appropriate cooling. The maximum memory bandwidth is 51 GB/s via the PCIe 4.0 standard. The price-performance ratio is advantageous for specialized applications such as rendering, as efficiency remains high for parallel tasks. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X represents the top model in this series and doubles the resources to 64 cores and 128 threads.

It is designed for extreme computing loads that require massive multitasking. The L2 cache is 32 MB and the L3 cache is twice as large as the smaller model at 256 MB. In single-core performance in certain benchmarks, it shows a significant lead over the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X, while multi-core values are often close to each other.

In gaming scenarios, there is no significant advantage, as games cannot efficiently use the enormous number of threads. Despite the high core count, the TDP remains at 280 watts, which increases energy efficiency per core. The market price is significantly higher, which limits the target group. The choice depends on the need for maximum parallelization, with this processor dominating in extreme workflows.
