AMD EPYC 7532 vs Apple A7

Last updated:
The AMD EPYC 7532, introduced in the first quarter of 2021, is a server processor based on AMD's 7 nm Zen 2 "Rome" architecture.

It is designed for data centers and high-performance computing, offering 32 cores, 64 threads, PCIe 4.0, and 256 MB of Level 3 cache. Its maximum memory bandwidth is 51 GB/s. The Apple A7 is a mobile System-on-a-Chip (SoC), introduced in September 2013 and manufactured by Apple using a 28 nm process.

It integrates two "Cyclone" CPU cores and a PowerVR G6430 graphics unit for smartphones and tablets, with 1 MB of Level 2 and 4 MB of Level 3 cache, and 13 GB/s memory bandwidth. In a performance comparison, the AMD EPYC 7532 shows significantly higher single-core performance and multiple times superior multi-core performance compared to the Apple A7, ideal for parallel server tasks.

The AMD EPYC 7532 is not intended for gaming scenarios. The Apple A7 was designed for mobile gaming of its time but cannot meet desktop gaming requirements. Regarding power consumption, the AMD EPYC 7532 has a high Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 200 Watts, while the Apple A7 operates extremely energy-efficiently with a very low TDP.

The AMD EPYC 7532 has a high professional acquisition price; the Apple A7 is an integral component of end devices.
