AMD Athlon Silver 7120U vs Intel Core 3 processor 100U

The AMD Athlon Silver 7120U is an energy-efficient processor introduced in 2022 for entry-level mobile devices, based on the Mendocino (Zen2) architecture in a 6 nm manufacturing process.

The Intel Core 3 processor 100U, released in 2023, also targets the entry-level mobile segment and uses the Raptor Lake U architecture in a 10 nm manufacturing process, with a hybrid core arrangement.

The AMD processor offers 1 MB L2 and 2 MB L3 cache, with a maximum memory bandwidth of 44 GB/s. The Intel chip features 10 MB L2 cache and a significantly higher memory bandwidth of 83 GB/s. In terms of computing power, the AMD Athlon Silver 7120U shows basic single-core and multi-core performance that is sufficient for everyday tasks.

The Intel Core 3 processor 100U, with its more modern architecture and higher bandwidth, will tend to deliver a more responsive experience, especially when running single applications. Neither processor is designed for gaming. The AMD Athlon Silver 7120U uses the AMD Radeon 610M, while the Intel Core 3 processor 100U integrates the more powerful Intel Iris Xe Graphics 64 (Alder Lake), which is advantageous for very light games.

Both are designed for low power consumption. The AMD Athlon Silver 7120U offers a strong price/performance ratio for purely basic tasks. The Intel Core 3 processor 100U is the better choice for slightly higher everyday performance and graphical capabilities.
