AMD A6-3400M vs Intel Core i3-12300

Last updated:
The AMD A6-3400M, a mobile processor from 2011, was manufactured in 32 nm (Llano/K10 architecture) and developed for inexpensive laptops.

It has four computing cores, 4 MB Level-3 cache, and an integrated AMD Radeon HD 6520G graphics (21 GB/s memory bandwidth). In contrast, the Intel Core i3-12300 is a desktop processor released in early 2022 (10 nm Alder Lake S architecture) with four performance cores, eight threads, 5 MB Level-2 cache, 12 MB Level-3 cache, Intel UHD Graphics 730 (77 GB/s memory bandwidth), and PCIe 5.0.

The Intel Core i3-12300 significantly outperforms the AMD A6-3400M in single-core and multi-core performance, due to its more modern architecture and higher clock speeds. This also makes it clearly superior for gaming, even if both integrated graphics units are only suitable for very light games.

The Intel's superior CPU performance is crucial for game logic and physics. Regarding power consumption, the mobile AMD A6-3400M had a TDP of 35 watts. The desktop processor Intel Core i3-12300 has a base TDP of 60 watts (maximum 89 watts under load). Despite higher performance, the Intel is efficient thanks to its advanced manufacturing process.

The outdated AMD processor is irrelevant for current purchases. The Intel Core i3-12300 offers excellent value for money and is the clear recommendation for any modern computer application.
