The
AMD E-240 processor is based on the
Zacate/
Bobcat architecture. It was manufactured using the 32nm process. This chip was a solid solution for slim systems at the time. Particularly noteworthy is the integrated graphics unit. The AMD Radeon HD 6310 reliably handled image output and basic multimedia tasks.
This meant that a separate graphics card could be dispensed with at the time. Another plus was the low power consumption of the
AMD E-240. This made it the ideal choice for compact netbooks and HTPC systems. The processor offered adequate performance for everyday applications such as surfing or office work.
Even today, it can still be used for very simple purposes. The combination of CPU and GPU on one chip also greatly simplified system design. We fondly remember the versatile applications of this processor. Its low energy consumption allowed for fanless or very quiet devices. The 1 MB Level-3 cache supported the overall performance of the system.
