Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Apple A13 Bionic

Last updated:
The Apple A13 Bionic, introduced in late 2019, is a 7 nm hexa-core processor (2 high-performance, 4 high-efficiency cores) with 8 MB of Level 2 cache and the A13 (Lightning / Thunder) architecture.

It was optimized for Apple's mobile devices and offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, launched in late 2022, is manufactured using the more advanced 4 nm process.

It utilizes a 1+4+3 cluster architecture (Cortex-X3 Prime, 4 Cortex-A715, 3 Cortex-A510) with 8 MB of Level 3 cache and a maximum memory bandwidth of 67 GB/s. The integrated Qualcomm Adreno 740 graphics unit offers high performance. In terms of performance, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 surpasses the Apple A13 Bionic by over 10 percent in both single-core and multi-core performance.

This also applies to gaming scenarios, where the Adreno 740 GPU and the higher memory bandwidth of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 enable significantly better graphics performance. The 4 nm manufacturing process of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also indicates superior energy efficiency compared to the 7 nm process of the A13 Bionic.

Both chips are not available separately; the A13 Bionic is found in older, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in current premium Android devices. The Apple A13 Bionic offers solid and efficient performance for the Apple ecosystem and is ideal for users looking for a reliable mobile experience.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, on the other hand, delivers outstanding peak performance for the most demanding mobile applications, gaming, and multitasking on Android platforms.
