Intel Xeon W-2245 vs Intel Xeon W-2235

The Intel Xeon W-2245 and Intel Xeon W-2235 are workstation processors from Intel, introduced in the fourth quarter of 2019 for professional users in content creation and data analysis.

Both are based on the Cascade Lake W architecture and are manufactured using the 14 nm process. The Intel Xeon W-2245 offers 8 cores, 16 threads, and 17 MB of Level 3 cache. The Intel Xeon W-2235 features 6 cores, 12 threads, and 8 MB of Level 3 cache. Both utilize PCIe 3.0 and achieve a maximum memory bandwidth of 94 GB/s.

In benchmarks, the Intel Xeon W-2245 shows significantly higher multi-core performance than the Intel Xeon W-2235, with differences exceeding 10 percent. The Intel Xeon W-2245 also exhibits noticeably better performance in some single-core tests. These workstation CPUs are generally not optimized for gaming; consumer CPUs are better suited for this.

Both processors have a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 120 Watts, indicating similar cooling requirements and comparable power consumption under full load. The Intel Xeon W-2245 offers a better price-performance ratio for more demanding, parallelized workloads, as its superior performance can justify the higher price.

The Intel Xeon W-2235 represents a solid, more cost-effective alternative when the absolute highest multi-core performance is not required.
