The Apple A9, introduced in 2015, was manufactured using the 16 nm process and was a mobile processor for the mainstream segment.

It features a dual-core CPU with 3 MB L2 and 4 MB L3 cache and 26 GB/s memory bandwidth. The Apple A14 Bionic, released in 2020, uses the more advanced 5 nm process and aimed at premium devices with high performance.

It features a 6-core CPU, consisting of high-performance cores (Firestorm) and energy-efficient cores (Icestorm), with 12 MB L2 and 16 MB L3 cache, as well as 34 GB/s memory bandwidth. In terms of performance, the Apple A14 Bionic shows significantly higher performance than the Apple A9 in all areas – single-core, multi-core, and gaming.

The A14 Bionic's more modern architecture and superior integrated graphics unit enable significantly smoother experiences and higher frame rates. These performance differences clearly exceed the 10 percent threshold. Thanks to the 5 nm manufacturing process, the Apple A14 Bionic is also more energy-efficient, delivering more performance with lower power consumption than the 16 nm A9, leading to longer battery life.

Separate prices for these integrated mobile processors are not available. Devices with the Apple A9 are very affordable today for basic tasks, while A14 Bionic devices serve a higher price segment with superior performance. The Apple A9 is a good choice for budget-conscious users and basic applications.

The Apple A14 Bionic is recommended for demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing, and AI applications, as it offers superior performance and energy efficiency.
