Apple A16 Bionic vs Apple A14 Bionic

Last updated:
The Apple A14 Bionic, introduced in late 2020, was designed for high-end smartphones and tablets of its generation.

It is based on a 5 nm manufacturing process and integrates a hexa-core CPU (Firestorm/Icestorm) with two performance cores and four efficiency cores. This processor features 12 MB of L2 cache, 16 MB of L3 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s. The integrated Apple A14 graphics deliver solid everyday performance.

The Apple A16 Bionic, unveiled in late 2022 with the iPhone 14 Pro models, represents an evolution.

It is manufactured using a more advanced 4 nm process, which enables improved energy efficiency. Its hexa-core CPU (A16) also offers two performance cores and four efficiency cores, but with architectural optimizations. With 20 MB of L2 cache, 24 MB of L3 cache, and a memory bandwidth of 51 GB/s, it is more powerful.

The integrated Apple A16 graphics with 5 GPU cores provide noticeably more graphics performance. In a direct performance comparison, the Apple A16 Bionic shows significantly higher single-core and multi-core performance than the Apple A14 Bionic. This is due to the finer manufacturing process and architectural improvements.

Especially in gaming scenarios, the A16 Bionic outperforms its predecessor thanks to its more powerful integrated graphics and higher memory bandwidth. Regarding power consumption, the A16 Bionic is more efficient due to its 4 nm process. Both are integral components of Apple devices. The A14 Bionic offers good value for money for everyday use in older devices.

The A16 Bionic is the choice for maximum computing and graphics performance.
