In the Intel Core i7 series there are processors with high computing power for work or as the heart of a gaming PC. Since 2017, Intel has also been offering the Intel Core i9 series for enthusiasts, which usually have even more CPU cores and higher clock frequencies than Intel's Core i7 processors. All Core i7 processors feature Hyper-Threading Technology, which doubles the number of CPU threads while increasing performance by up to 40% over processors without Hyper-Threading.

The Intel Core i7 processors are available for desktop use as well as for use as a mobile processor (e.g. in a notebook). The processors range from the smaller U versions (15 watts TDP) to the strong desktop versions with 125 watts TDP. The modern Intel Core i7 processors support up to 128 GB of RAM in two memory channels (usually up to four modules). As of 2022, Intel will be offering the Core i7 processors with up to 12 cores in the mobile and desktop segments.

Processor variants marked with a K have a free multiplier and can be overclocked. In addition, since 2019 there have also been the F variants, which come without an internal graphics card and are therefore reduced in price. Since many high-end computers have a dedicated graphics card anyway and therefore do not need the internal graphics card of the processor, it can be worth buying an F variant.

The processors of the Core i7 series are very fast and are suitable for very complex office tasks, video editing, image editing or the latest PC games. If you opt for an overclockable K variant with a free multiplier, you should ensure that the processor is well cooled so that it works in the maximum turbo frequency range for as long as possible and thus maintains maximum computing power.
