The AMD Threadripper PRO series contains the most powerful AMD processors for the business sector and is mainly used in workstations. The processors are only available for the desktop area. Technically, the AMD Threadripper PRO processors are similar to AMD's EPYC series server processors, but the memory interface has been halved compared to the server processors. The AMD Threadripper PRO CPUs support twice as many memory channels as the normal AMD Threadripper models (8 memory channels) and can address a maximum amount of 2 TB of memory. The maximum supported memory is DDR4-3200, the maximum bandwidth when using all eight memory channels is over 204 GB/s and is therefore about four times as high as with the current AMD Ryzen processors.

The AMD Threadripper PRO processors are also better positioned in terms of interface support than the AMD Ryzen CPUs, which were developed for the mainstream area. AMD's Threadripper CPUs support up to 128 PCIe 4.0 lines (normal AMD Threadripper CPUs support a maximum of 72 PCIe lines) and can thus connect multiple graphics cards and fast M.2 SSDs to the system with maximum bandwidth.

Although the core architecture of the AMD Threadripper PRO processors is based on that of the AMD Ryzen processors, up to 4 internal chips are combined here (with AMD Ryzen 9 a maximum of 2). A maximum of up to 64 CPU cores and 128 simultaneous threads are currently possible in the AMD Threadripper PRO processors. Due to the many CPU cores, the clock frequency is a maximum of 4.55 GHz (single-core turbo) and thus slightly lower than the fastest AMD Ryzen 9 processors, which clock at up to 4.9 GHz.

Due to the many CPU cores, the AMD Threadripper PRO CPUs also require a lot of energy. Up to 280 watts TDP are possible, the processors are supplied with the necessary energy via the TRX4 socket. The 64-core CPUs can access up to 256 MB level 3 cache. The AMD Threadripper PRO processors do not have internal graphics. Likewise, there are no mobile processors in the series.
