The
MediaTek MT6592M was a remarkable mobile processor for its time. It was based on the
Cortex-A9 architecture and manufactured using the 28nm process. Its greatest strength was undoubtedly its
true octa-core configuration. All eight cores could operate simultaneously. This enabled
solid multi-thread performance, helping the chip deliver smooth multitasking on mobile devices, which wasn't always a given back then.
An ARM Mali-450 MP4 was integrated for graphics tasks. This graphics unit was well-suited for typical multimedia applications and everyday use. It provided more than adequate rendering for videos and many apps. We saw this chip make smartphones with good performance more affordable. MediaTek often positioned the MT6592M in devices.
These offered a good balance of functionality and cost. With 1 MB of L2 cache and a memory bandwidth of 5 GB/s, it was equipped for the demands of the time. It allowed many users to enter the world of multi-core processors.
