Apple A6 vs Apple A18 Pro

Last updated:
The Apple A6, architectural name A6, was introduced in 2012 as a mobile processor for the iPhone 5, designed for basic smartphone functions.

It was manufactured using a 32-nm process, featured a dual-core CPU and a PowerVR SGX543MP3 (3 Cores) graphics unit. Its maximum memory bandwidth was 9 GB/s. The Apple A18 Pro, architectural name Donan, is a state-of-the-art mobile processor expected to be used in Apple's flagship smartphones in 2024.

Manufactured using the advanced 3-nm process, it integrates a multi-core CPU and a powerful Apple A18 Pro (6 GPU Cores) graphics unit. With 60 GB/s memory bandwidth, 20 MB L2 cache, and 24 MB L3 cache, it offers significantly higher performance. In terms of single-core and multi-core performance, as well as in gaming scenarios, the Apple A18 Pro significantly surpasses the Apple A6.

The A6 is insufficient in performance for modern applications, while the A18 Pro enables peak performance and fluid gameplay thanks to its architecture. The energy efficiency of the Apple A18 Pro is significantly better than that of the 32-nm Apple A6, thanks to the 3-nm process. This leads to lower power consumption with significantly higher performance.

Both processors are an integral part of their respective Apple devices and are not available separately.
