Apple A17 Pro vs Apple A13 Bionic

Last updated:
The Apple A13 Bionic, codenamed A13 (Lightning / Thunder), was developed for the iPhone 11 series and the 9th generation iPad.

Manufactured using a 7nm process, it features a 6-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores. The integrated Apple A13 graphics unit, 8 MB Level 2 cache, and 34 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth offered solid performance for everyday tasks at the time of its introduction. It can be found in older, more affordable devices.

The Apple A17 Pro, codenamed Ibiza, is the advanced processor in the iPhone 15 Pro models.

It is manufactured using a state-of-the-art 3nm process, enabling significantly higher transistor density and improved energy efficiency per watt. Its 6-core CPU (two high-performance cores, four efficiency cores) and the more powerful Apple A17 Pro (6 GPU Cores) graphics unit significantly outperform the A13 Bionic.

With 20 MB Level 2, 24 MB Level 3 cache, and 51 GB/s memory bandwidth, it offers peak performance for demanding applications and gaming, including ray tracing support. It is exclusively found in current premium smartphones. In single-core and multi-core tasks, as well as in gaming, the Apple A17 Pro is clearly superior to the Apple A13 Bionic.

The newer architecture, smaller manufacturing process, more powerful graphics unit, and higher memory bandwidth of the A17 Pro enable significantly smoother frame rates and more detailed graphics. The Apple A13 Bionic is suitable for everyday tasks and budget-conscious users. The Apple A17 Pro is the recommendation for maximum computing and graphics performance, demanding mobile gaming, and professional workflows.
