Apple A13 Bionic vs Apple A10 Fusion

Last updated:
The Apple A13 Bionic, introduced in September 2019, is an advanced System-on-a-Chip (SoC), primarily designed for high-end smartphones like the iPhone 11 series.

The Apple A10 Fusion, unveiled in September 2016, was a powerful SoC for the iPhone 7 series and some iPads.

Both were developed for Apple's mobile devices. The Apple A13 Bionic is manufactured using the 7 nm process and features six cores: two powerful (Lightning) and four energy-efficient (Thunder). The Level 2 cache is 8 MB. The Apple A10 Fusion is manufactured using the 10 nm process, is equipped with four cores (two powerful, two energy-efficient), and has a Level 2 cache of 3 MB as well as a Level 3 cache of 4 MB.

The Apple A13 Bionic shows significantly superior single-core performance, positioning it better for tasks with high single-core demands. In multi-core performance too, the Apple A13 Bionic considerably outperforms the Apple A10 Fusion, allowing it to handle more complex workloads and multitasking much more efficiently.

The performance differences are significant in both areas. Thanks to its newer architecture and integrated Apple A13 graphics, the Apple A13 Bionic offers significantly better performance in gaming scenarios. The higher memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s further supports the graphics unit.

The Apple A10 Fusion, with its Apple A10 graphics and 26 GB/s memory bandwidth, is sufficient for older or less demanding games but struggles to keep up with modern titles. The 7 nm manufacturing process of the Apple A13 Bionic makes it more energy-efficient than the Apple A10 Fusion (10 nm) at comparable performance.

This typically leads to lower power consumption under load and better heat dissipation, which positively impacts battery life and thermal stability. Since the processors are tightly integrated into Apple devices, a direct price/performance ratio is difficult to assess. The Apple A13 Bionic is found in newer, more expensive devices, while the Apple A10 Fusion is installed in older, cheaper used devices.

The ratio thus depends on the overall device. The Apple A13 Bionic is clearly the more powerful and energy-efficient processor, ideal for demanding applications, modern games, and high responsiveness. The Apple A10 Fusion offers solid performance for basic tasks and older apps but is inferior in raw performance and efficiency.

For current software and future-proof performance, the Apple A13 Bionic is the choice. For a cheaper device focusing on everyday tasks, the Apple A10 Fusion is sufficient.
